Keep Looking Youthful
We all age at the same pace, but the reflection of our age in our appearance differs radically from person to person. That is because our bodies react to the aging process at differing rates and the areas in which aging is noticed differs from person to person. Which is why some individuals may show lines and wrinkles and others not, or some will display sagging and others not, although they are all of the same age.
Lifestyle and habits are the biggest factors when it comes to aging visibly. A healthy lifestyle, with minimal exposure to the sun, proper hydration and attentive skincare will help preserve the condition of the skin. The stresses of inadequate care and overexposure to sunlight will contribute to the early visibility of the aging process.
Where does facial aging appear
The appearance of fine lines, usually around the corners of the eyes and sometimes the lips are the initial signs that aging is taking place and that the elasticity of youthful skin has begun to diminish.
Loss of elasticity and plumpness may cause the naso-labial folds (this is the line between the nose and the corners of your mouth) to become more pronounced.
The skin under the eyes will start to sag and wrinkle as plumpness and elasticity are lost.
Lines around the mouth will appear or deepen.
As the skin loses elasticity, jowls may appear to be forming
Reversing the signs/What can you do
Treatments to supplement the decreased quantities of collagen and hyaluronic acid are available. These are applied directly to the site via injection or topical gel.
Collagen and Hyaluronic acid
These are the proteins and amino-acids which keep your skin plump and smooth, but you age the body produces gradually less of these components, thereby preventing your skin from remaining as it did in youth.
The injection of the proteins directly into the site is known as dermal filling: The act of plumping up the skin to it’s original state. This may even include the lips as they lose plumpness and weight with age.
Areas of the face that can benefit from dermal fillers
- Naso-labial folds – Can be plumped out to give the face a less gaunt and younger appearance.
- Fine and deep lines – These lines can add years to your appearance, plumping them up can make them disappear allowing one to appear younger and healthier
- Eyes – The skin around the eyes is prone to wrinkling because it is thin and the skin stretches and reforms along as facial expressions change.
- Jowls – By returning some of the elasticity to the skin the sides of the face and the skin under the chin will firm up, reducing the appearance of jowls
The body will re-absorb the collagen and hyaluronic acid with which your face is injected over a number of months, so repeat visits to your skin care professional will be required in order to maintain your appearance.
