Vampire Facials

This is a medical procedure that is performed by our inhouse doctor, Dr Bart Kurek. In order to go ahead with this treatment, you will first need to book a face-to-face consultation with Dr Bart. If you have any questions, please email info@fwac.co.za directly.

Some consider vampire facials to be an extreme anti-ageing treatment that uses your own body’s resources to possibly improve the elasticity and health of your skin. It is also called platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, and uses the patient’s own blood cells for regenerative therapy.

What is Platelet Rich Plasma?

Platelet-rich plasma is autologous blood, meaning it is obtained from the individual being treated with platelets that contain several growth factors. Since it is derived from blood, this plasma comprises smaller solid components: red and white blood cells and platelets. In addition, this fluid is packed with proteins essential for healing injuries.

The plasma’s healing may foster growth factors ten times higher than normal when applied to the patient during treatment. As a result, platelet-rich plasma treatments may be recommended for treating ageing skin. In addition, it may assist with hair, muscle, and joint regeneration.

How Vampire Facials Work

First, Dr Bart will conduct a consultation to determine your anti-ageing goals and discuss how to best achieve natural results in line with those goals, your desired timeline, and your budget. Once you are comfortable with his explanation of the process, downtime, and possible side effects, the next steps in your treatment journey get underway.

During the treatment, a sterile needle is used to draw some of your blood, which is spun in a centrifuge to separate the different blood components. The platelet-rich plasma is then extracted and applied to your skin using a process similar to microneedling. Then the platelets start to repair damaged cells like the nano scars created by the microneedling process by encouraging elastane and collagen production to improve your skin’s elasticity, ideally reducing scars and sagging.

Before the plasma is applied, we apply an anaesthetic cream to make you more comfortable throughout the procedure. However, you may experience some discomfort during the initial blood extraction.

What are the advantages of vampire facials?

Vampire facials have been proven to provide a number of benefits to the skin, including:

  • Improving the appearance of scars, stretch marks and wrinkles.
  • Rejuvenating skin under the eyes.
  • Keeping skin pores tight.
  • Increasing the volume of areas of skin such as the cheeks where patients would otherwise require fillers.

All of these benefits make themselves known in a completely natural manner since the procedure uses your own blood for the treatment.

Are vampire facials safe?

Since blood is sourced from your own body, there is a decreased likelihood of possible allergic reactions or bad side effects. However, we recommend that the treatment is not done in conjunction with any anti-inflammatory or blood thinning medication since the procedure results in mild swelling and bleeding. In addition, despite the vampire facial being conducted by Dr Bart, no procedure is entirely risk-free. Again, the possible risks and likely downtime will be discussed before the treatment.
