Changing our habits can help us look younger

We can’t prevent ourselves from getting older but we can make it easier on our skin and ourselves.

Skin changes with time, diet, hormonal fluctuations and health and fitness levels, all of which can be brought in line through a little effort by ourselves. Losing our bad habits is not easy and often we fail at changing them for lack of an alternative. By having an alternative to the destructive habit we can condition our behaviour. What’s more is that this can be ingrained even further by the added incentive of better all round health and looking and feeling younger.

Simple alternatives to what you are doing will make the difference. For example, if you are accustomed to your coffee break at a certain time of morning you needn’t stop. Rather swop that cup of coffee for a cup of herbal tea.

And that cigarette, you don’t need it. A few vegetable sticks will keep your hands and mouth busy and instead of promoting aging you will be nourishing your body, and you won’t gain weight either.

Toasting in the sun makes us feel good while it works it’s vitamin D magic but 15minutes of sunlight a day is ample, so instead of laying in the sun, start a hobby that you can do outdoors. Your book will be equally good in the shade. Just pottering around in the garden will give you enough sunlight and your garden will benefit. Remember to always wear a good quality sunscreen.

Make sure you get enough sleep. As much as we feel tired on the inside it certainly shows up on the outside. Sleep rejuvenates the entire body, including the skin and when we don’t sleep enough our body and brain take all the energy we have just to keep functioning, there is none left for proper skin rejuvenation. You don’t need to stay up and watch that movie, it will be there tomorrow. Switching off the television, radios and any other equipment at least half an hour before bed time allows your brain to slow down and prepare for rest, sleep will come easier if you are not excited about something you have just seen or heard.

Swop your fizzy drinks for water, aside from having less calories it will help flush your system of impurities. Your skin will definitely benefit. If you drink fizzy drinks for the taste you can add a bit of lemon to your water or try alternating your drinks.

When the time comes that you feel you need a helping hand, there are procedures which will help you diminish lines and wrinkles on the skin.  Fillers and treatments will plump your skin and keep you looking that much younger and all those good habits you started cultivating will stand you in good stead.
