Why We Should Exfoliate
Your facial exfoliation is most probably already a key step in your skincare routine. You scrub your face every few days to get off the dead skin and to increase the cell turnover, which reveals radiant skin underneath, right? But does the rest of your body get the same kind of TLC? The rest of your body is made up of the same cells as your face and needs the same care.
Celebrity aesthetician Joanna Varges says: “Body exfoliation is key, or we won’t see a positive change in our skin” Scrubbing the body ensures that your skincare products are getting to your skin properly. When you have a build up of dead cells, it clogs your pores and prevents your body lotion from reaching below the dermis.
Start your body routine today with these great beginner tips:
Start slow:
Even if you scrub your skin for one minute twice a week, this will keep your skin feeling fresh. If your skin is more sensitive, you should only exfoliate once a week.
Beware with sensitive skin:
When you are choosing your exfoliator, keep your skin type in mind. A body wash is going to give you a gentler, less coarse exfoliation, as apposed to using a body scrub.
Adding dry brushing:
Dry brushing i assist with the removal of dead skin cells, but Vegas recommends it for those who have cellulite. Dry brushing helps stimulate the cell turnover and thickens your skin, thus making your cellulite less visible. It is also great for keeping the lymphatic system working properly so it is slimming and de-puffing.
Skip on the loofah:
Vargas says that loofah’s can collect bacteria over time and are difficult to keep clean, which is why she recommends a washcloth instead so that you can put it in the wash after each use. And on top of it all, washing and reusing your washcloths is very eco-friendly.
